Communication Challenge
Would you describe yourself as an excellent communicator? Are you patient or impatient? Most of us will admit that we communicate in quick and abbreviated "sound bites" in many, if not most, of our interactions today. We don't have (or is it "take") time to have a live, two-way conversation or write a grammatically correct email or letter. Are we losing our ability to communicate well? I offer a simple challenge. Take the time to have a face-to-face conversation or write a two-paragraph email or letter using complete sentences and no abbreviations at least once a week so that you do not lose the art of full and complete communications.
Arguing
If you want to master the principles of human relations, I recommend you read one of my all-time favorite books, "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie. Even though it has been updated for the Digital Age, I prefer the original version written in 1936. I read it for the first time in 2006 and wondered why it took me so long.
Bullying
How often do you hear about bullying these days? At least once a week? It appears to be rampant from the playground to the nursing home. Our workplaces may be rife with bullying. My reflections on this horrible habit is not intended to be comprehensive, but rather to be thought provoking so that you join me in doing something about this destructive, disruptive, despicable behavior.
In a 2014 National Survey by the Workplace Bullying Institute, bullying was defined as repeated mistreatment that is: threatening, humiliating, intimidating, sabotaging, and/or verbally abusive.
